Give us a little more insight into your hat obsession. Do they play into your stories? What is your favorite kind of hat?
So let’s talk hats… Over the last year or so, I’ve become rather infamous for both my hats and my ability to coerce other people into answering silly questions while wearing hats on my blog, The Hat Party. This definitely is not how I imagined my path in life.
Wrangler of dachshunds?
Absolutely.
Professional point-and-click adventure game player?
Definitely.
Sushi sampler, creativity cheerleader, and M/M sweetness peddler?
Sure, sure, and sure!
But, hat lady?
Not so much.
When I was younger, I liked hats, but from afar. I wasn’t confident enough for them, you see—not the ones I really wanted to wear. The sort of sweeping garden hats with the brims that could take out a bystander’s eye, or the fascinators with the veils that come down in the front, or the glitzed up, feathered headbands reminiscent of the flapper era. I wanted big and loud and garish. It would take me almost thirty years before I took the leap.
The first time I placed the pink and green handmade tiny hat (complete with ribbons and beads and mounted on a glitter-pink headband) onto my head…there was no going back.
Yes, I looked ridiculous. No, I didn’t care. It was fun! And, since then, it’s been great pulling other people in on the fun, too.
So what’s the takeaway from all of this (besides Raine likes hats and if you see a weird one she’ll probably love it?) The takeaway is: if you want to try something, but you’re nervous, dip your toe in anyway…and maybe don’t wait thirty years…and, also, bring others along. You’ll look better with the fascinator on your head, I promise. 🙂

Even through the snow, Rell didn’t feel the cold. His face burned with the excitement of escaping the Livery and absconding with his brother’s best friend. He clasped Crowley’s hand, pulling him through the street. They ran and skidded and laughed, moving farther and farther away from the club.
“It’s beautiful tonight,” Crowley breathed and Rell squeezed tighter. “Doesn’t it weird you out though?”
“Nope.”
Rell knew what Crowley was asking—didn’t even pretend that he didn’t. Stopping, he tugged lightly so Crowley came stumbling up beside him. He twined his arms around Crowley’s waist and held him for a moment, right there in the middle of the sidewalk.
“Does it weird you out? I’m your best friend’s brother.”
“Not weirded out at all.” Crowley shook his head. His dark eyes shimmered with concern. “But for you… I mean, it was loud in there and hot and fun and there was alcohol and… sometimes… things just happen and—”
“Yeah, things happen,” Rell agreed. “Except I’ve been to a lot of stupid hipster clubs with a lot of Tyler’s friends and….” He leaned forward and kissed Crowley again, letting the experience linger, melting the chill between them. He tasted like nogtini. “And nothing like that has ever happened.”
“But… do you even like guys?”
“Owl. You’re a guy. I like you.”
“But have you been with a guy?”
“Why are you over-thinking this?” Rell asked, gently cupping the side of Crowley’s face.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
ok, let me start my review saying i LOVED rell…a lot! i love his happy go lucky, fly by the seat of my pants, do what makes me happy attitude. i love that he has such a wonderful attitude and love for life even after being told what a slacker and idiot he is by his family (to whom he’s very close) for most of his adult life. he is completely misunderstood and under appreciated – until crowley walks into his life. (sidebar: i absolutely LOVE his nickname for crowley!)
crowley is so sweet and kind hearted, his struggles really break your heart. he has always struggled with his weight and even though he is controlling it better now, the emotional damage was done long ago and is still not healed – until he meets rell and his family.
the two of them together are absolutely perfect for each other and i hope they are together forever!
all of the secondary characters are fantastic! rell and tyler’s family makes me wish i had a big family like that to be a part of! tyler is probably more of a main character than secondary. his relationship with his twin makes you laugh out loud quite a bit but you know the love is there. and tyler and crowley truly love each other as only best friends can.
the epilogue is a bit of a tease and leaves you anxious for the next story!
