Meg Michaels, a bookstore owner, has already walked away from two cheating exes. She’s learned her lesson and has her mind set on success—until she gets knocked up. Embarrassed and unwilling to discuss her situation with friends and family, she wears layers to hide the pregnancy.

When Meg gets sick at a party, she’s mortified. Even worse, Theo Taylor, the guest of honor, discovers her secret. Theo, an Army medic wounded in the war, agrees not to reveal her condition, and the two forge a bond of friendship that blossoms into love.

Theo is soon filling all of Meg’s late-night cravings—and not just the pregnancy-induced ones. But can their love overcome all the obstacles that stand between them and creating a happy family?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

this book is probably closer to 4.5 stars. this was a beautiful, touching story.

there were so many layers to this book that it may be hard to touch them all and not reveal parts of the book that should be a surprise.

this book revolves around several relationships…some of which are left unresolved and i’m hoping will show up in future books making this a series.

let’s start with meg and theo. they meet at a party…and have an instant attraction. she is really hung up on hiding her pregnancy and theo has a chip on his shoulder because of his injuries. they form a bond that becomes a friendship that blossoms into love. they are so great for each other but really need to work on themselves individually before they can forge forward. it seems like meg was pretty immature before she becomes pregnant and grows up quite a bit during her pregnancy. theo is having a hard time coming to terms with his injuries and the pain he has to endure and makes some bad choices while trying to deal with that. in the end, theirs is a beautiful love story.

meg has a twin brother, steve, that she is hiding the pregnancy from…their relationship is challenged quite a bit in this book, especially since he is so overprotective of her. there is also a sub-plot with steve and his lady friend that i would love to see in a future story!

another story within the story is meg and steve’s relationship with their mom and stepmom. i don’t want to reveal too much but there is some maturation and healing by meg that are critical to her relationship development with theo.

we’re also introduced to theo’s brother, jake and mother, melinda. while there relationships are touched on, i don’t think any of them were developed fully and i would have liked to see more of those relationships repaired as well.

as i’ve stated, i think ms. ashby opened the door for at least 2 – 3 more books revolving around these characters – steve and his lady, cortez and his lady and possibly a story around theo and his family (maybe a novella).

this is definitely an author to have on your radar for future releases.

Claire Ashby was born and raised in the heart of Atlanta. At a young age, she began keeping journals and over time embellished the details of her quiet days. Eventually, she let go of writing reality altogether and delved completely into the world of fiction.

When she’s not reading or writing, she spends her time watching extreme survival shows and taking long walks after nightfall. She has an unnatural love of high places, but still regrets the time she skydived solo. She believes some things are better left to the imagination. She resides in Austin with her family and a pack of wild dogs.
