Blurb:

Casey Scott grew up being told he’d never amount to anything, and despite the unwavering

love and support from his best friend, Jake, the idea sticks in the back of Casey’s mind. When he

discovers he has a unique destiny in an enclave where shifters and humans live together, he

seizes the chance, wanting for once in his life to be someone special.

Tsvetok Yerokhin lost his parents to the evil ruler of the enclave when he was a boy. The

responsibilities of raising his two younger brothers nearly overwhelmed him and self-doubt

took over. When the new Alpha and his Protector arrive in time to save his life, Sev is grateful,

but he’s even more shocked when he scents his mate with them.

Casey isn’t prepared for the feelings that sweep over him when he meets Sev, but he refuses to

act on them because he’s straight. Still, there is something so alluring about Sev that Casey can’t

help being drawn to him.

As the two explore the edges of their new discovery, an evil returns, determined to control the

enclave or destroy it. The Alpha and Protector are powerless to stop it, but Casey holds the key

to victory. If he can discover what it is, he has a chance to save them all. To be the hero.

Unfortunately, the hero has to be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, and for Casey that means losing his heart.

Excerpt:

“This night is shot,” Casey mumbled. “Hakii, if you’re there, I’m sorry. I need to find him. I’ll try to be back as soon as I can. Oh, and if you’re not there, I hope you’re getting a damn good laugh at me talking to myself.”

The night air had chilled considerably. Casey threw on a sweater and hurried to the Alpha’s house. Before he could pound on the door, it swung open. Jake stood there wearing nothing at all.

“Oh god, my eyes.”

Jake sighed. “You’ve seen me before. A lot, if I recall correctly.”

“And every time I do, I remember that I need to create eye bleach.”

Jake faked a laugh. “Yeah, you’re hilarious. What do you want?”

“A guy came to my house tonight. His name is Sev, and I think he’s in trouble.”

All humor fled from Jake’s face. “What happened?”

Casey told him about the visit. “He…called me his mate. What the hell is that about?”

“Later. We’ve got to find him.”

In an instant, Jake transformed into a beautiful black jaguar. Zak came rushing to the door. “What is wrong?”

Before Casey could answer, Zak grabbed a heavy coat and squirmed into it. “Jake will track him. You will come with us.”

“Zak, he called me his mate. Why would he do that?”

“You worry about this now? I do not see where this matters. If you prefer, you may stay behind.”

Casey sobered immediately. “No, you’re right. I’m sorry.”

They tracked Jake as he hurried to the woods. When they heard him roar, Zak and Casey ran to the edge of the forest. Jake had transformed back to his human form and, man, was he pissed.

“Come out here, now,” he demanded.

There was no movement, but Casey heard a clicking noise, followed by the familiar stamping of feet.

“You spray me and I swear to the gods I will neuter you. Put your damn tail down and face us as a man, Sev.”

Scent of the HeartScent of the Heart by Parker Williams

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

this is my first shifter series. i don’t know anything about the genre but i know that i absolutely love this series. you have to leave reality completely behind to read these books and i love every minute of it. there is a LOT of emotion in this book.

i love casey’s snarky, smart a$$ attitude. i love the initial interactions between sev and casey – sev (the skunk shifter) SPRAYED him, sprayed him…3 times and it was absolutely, freaking hysterical. until sev explained what he was doing and what it meant and then it was absolutely, freaking beautiful. neither of them are gay. neither of them have ever thought of being with a man. neither of them feel worthy of anything. neither of them fully understand what they mean to each other or the depth of their bond. that bond is stretched and pulled in every direction and almost…almost broken. casey and sev grow a lot in this book – both individually and as a couple – becoming beautifully strong men. i cannot wait to see how the rest of their story unfolds in the next book.

there is an underlying (or maybe not so underlying) theme of how powerfully hate begets and breeds hate. the more you feed hate with hate, the bigger and stronger it becomes. the author shows, quite masterfully, the dangers of letting hate grow and the importance of acceptance and love.

mr. williams is quite the tease with his epilogue leaving you not so patiently waiting for the next story – it sounds utterly amazing.

and as much of a panther fan as i am, i ADORE this cover!

Web
I was fortunate enough to not only interview Parker for this tour but he was one of my firsts!

Q:  You write in a couple different genres.  Which is your favorite and why?

A:  I don’t know that I have a favorite yet. I do love shifter stories, but I also like writing BDSM stories with KC Wells. Then there are the Pulp Friction stories with Lee Brazil, Havan Fellows, and Laura Harner. OOH! Then there’s a story tentatively titled ‘Haven’, where my good guy isn’t so good.

Q:  I’m new to shifting (in fact, Protector of the Alpha was my 1st!).  Which type of shifter is your favorite?  What are some good resources for more info on the world of shifting?  The black panther has always been my favorite animal…and you totally made it even better in my eyes!  😀

A:  OMG, I took your virginity? How cool is that? My favorite shifter is a bear. I like the raw power they possess. There are some truly amazing authors out there who have created special worlds for their shifters. One of my favorites is Silvia Violet. Her Wild R Farm stories are (for me) legendary. And they have one of my favorite men (even though he’s human) in Wes, lover of Tristan. He is SO freaking alpha it’s not even funny, but he’s also a good man. And I’m currently immersing myself in Catherine LIevens’s world where shifters have been experimented on. I just finished the first book, and am already enthralled by the world she’s created.

Q:  Who are your top 5 must read authors?

A:  Only five? That’s torture.

Laura Harner (if you haven’t read her new story, Cliff’s Edge, get it! It’s part of the Willow Springs Ranch series, but is actually the start of a new one for her. You do NOT need to know the characters at WSR to enjoy the book. Keep in mind though: Ryan is SO mine.

Silvia Violet: I love everything she writes, especially the shifter stories.

KC Wells: She writes the sweetest love stories, and some very hot sex scenes. (Of course, as a good boy, I only read the story parts.)

Havan Fellows: She writes some amazingly quirky characters that you cannot help but fall in love with.

Cate Ashwood: I’ve been in love with her work ever since ‘Keeping Sweets’. Plus she’s an absolutely wonderful person who is the mother of my 1-year-old cyber-nephew.

Q:  If you could visit any place in the world to get a story idea, where would you go?

A:  Ireland. I want to write about magick and kiss the Blarney stone to have me be garrulous.

Q:  Tell us one thing we would be shocked to learn about you.  🙂

A:  I’m gay.

No, really. I am. Married to a man for the past 26 years (the last several legally). I also am the obedient servant of four dogs and three cats.

I worked 27.5 years at a hotel in Milwaukee where I was offered money to watch two guys have sex (I didn’t), was offered oral sex by a priest (I didn’t), and found this sexy as hell man in the hallway in his underwear, looking for the bathroom. I led him back to his room, and showed him where the bathroom was. He whipped it out like I wasn’t even there. Then I put him back to bed. Did I mention he was amazingly sexy?
