Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.
I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.
That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.
Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.
Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

i’m left feeling conflicted about this book.
let me start with what i do like about it. being in IT, i always love when IT folks are the MC’s in a book. this is no exception. i liked dylan and tristan together – they just worked. i love that tristan brings out the real dylan. i love that dylan feels comfortable enough with tristan to let his guard down. they are sweet together and brought out the best in each other. they showed each other what it is to truly live and love.
what i didn’t like was the main premise of the story and it left me very confused. i felt like a major piece of this story was missing. dylan basically figured out he was gay in high school. why did he ever hide it? there was no history of his life showing why his sexuality was being hidden. also, why did he sleep with teri in the first place? if he had to be fall down drunk and imagine a man while they were together, why do it? and then do it again and again? all of this is still unclear to me. i don’t like stories involving MC’s that live an absolute and complete lie by marrying someone they absolutely have no business marrying. getting pregnant (3 times no less), getting married and staying married to raise the kids is super frustrating for me. i’m an honest person and to deny the truth for 21 years for a false sense of honor and martyrdom ends up hurting everyone involved.
there were several other things that left me wanting that i will quickly list because i don’t want to give anything away in the story unnecessarily. landry’s and david’s stories and involvement in each company were a bit contradictory at times. i thought the children’s reaction to the truth was a bit far-fetched. i still have a couple of questions about teri’s surprise. while i typically have no problem with sex scenes and understand fully that dylan was finally living out 21 years of repressed sexuality, i think a couple of the scenes could have been removed and replaced with filling in the gaps i’ve mentioned.
