Blurb:
YOU’VE GOT MAIL meets HOW TO EAT A CUPCAKE in this delightful novel about a talented chef and the food critic who brings down her restaurant—whose chance meeting turns into a delectable romance of mistaken identities.

In downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lou works tirelessly to build her beloved yet struggling French restaurant, Luella’s, into a success. She cheerfully balances her demanding business and even more demanding fiancé…until the morning she discovers him in the buff—with an intern.

Witty yet gruff British transplant Al is keeping himself employed and entertained by writing scathing reviews of local restaurants in the Milwaukee newspaper under a pseudonym. When an anonymous tip sends him to Luella’s, little does he know he’s arrived on the worst day of the chef’s life. The review practically writes itself: underdone fish, scorched sauce, distracted service—he unleashes his worst.

The day that Al’s mean-spirited review of Luella’s runs, the two cross paths in a pub: Lou drowning her sorrows, and Al celebrating his latest publication. As they chat, Al playfully challenges Lou to show him the best of Milwaukee and she’s game—but only if they never discuss work, which Al readily agrees to. As they explore the city’s local delicacies and their mutual attraction, Lou’s restaurant faces closure, while Al’s column gains popularity. It’s only a matter of time before the two fall in love…but when the truth comes out, can Lou overlook the past to chase her future?

Set in the lovely, quirky heart of Wisconsin, THE COINCIDENCE OF COCONUT CAKE is a charming love story of misunderstandings, mistaken identity, and the power of food to bring two people together.

YM‘s review

This book just gave me the yummy, ooeeeyyy, sweet, goosies(YES! I am back to the American idol references!!)

I don’t need to really go into the specifics of the storyline, but I will say, it is cute. It has heart and it is different than most of what I have been reading. It has likable, well developed characters and the STORY LINE IS CENTERED AROUND FOOD!! THE TITLE HAS THE WORDS COCONUT CAKE IN IT!!!!!! If that isn’t sufficient reason for you to pick it up, and read then let me try a bit more. The main male character is British!…..no? More? ugh!
Amy Reichert blends quirky likable characters, realistic relationships, a realistic city, a love affair with said city, a love affair with food, a love affair between characters, and even though there is miscommunication and confusion, there is forgiveness and re-blending of love, food and your mise en plas HEA.

I enjoyed this one immensely. It was a perfect palate cleanser with a sweet finish. It’s almost like when you have a yummy meal and then can’t stop thinking about it…….Or does that only happen to me? LOL
Would I recommend this to my friends? Absolutely! They must meet Al and Lou and most importantly, they must make the recipe in the back of the novel and report back to me.

I will update this review after I attempt this cake for my bday.
However, should Ms. Reichert want to make it for me and send it for my bday, I will devour it.

About the Author:

9824955Amy Reichert earned her MA in Literature from Marquette University, and honed her writing and editing skills as a technical writer (which is exactly as exciting as it sounds). As a newly minted member of the local library board, she loves helping readers find new books to love. She’s a life-long Wisconsin resident with (allegedly) a very noticeable accent, a patient husband, and two too-smart-for-their-own-good kids. When time allows, she loves to read, collect more cookbooks than she could possibly use, and test the limits of her DVR.

Ok…show of hands…who out there has heard of smashing new author Amy E. Reichert??  No?  Well, let me just start with the intro on her website and if this doesn’t entice you to give her a shot, maybe our interview will.

Amy’s Intro stolen from her website:

I’m a writer.

From that you can extrapolate a few things:

  1. I like to make stuff up.
  2. I enjoy the occasional adult beverage.
  3. If I know you in real life, there’s a good chance some part of you will appear in my books, but I’m going to lie and say that’s not you.
  4. I’m probably not wearing pants.
  5. I have an embarrassing number of books I haven’t read, but I’m still going to buy more.

Thank you Amy for joining us for this Q&A!

Q:  Let’s get the most important question out of the way – what is your favorite (occasional) adult beverage?

A:  I am a proud cider enthusiast! For those confused, cider is not beer. Cider is 100% fermented apple juice and it ranges from super sweet to crisp and dry, almost like a champagne. Any time I see a new brand, I snap it up. My current favorite is Angry Orchard’s Muse.  When cider isn’t an option, I’m a fan of most wine, mojitos, margaritas, and a well-made gin & tonic or brandy old-fashioned (it’s a Wisconsin thing).

Q:  I noticed a video of the Hawks on your website.  Are you a hockey fan?  Are the Hawks your team or someone else?  (I’m an AVID hockey fan who supports the Pens and Stars.)

A:  I am not. The Hawks video was for two dear friends who are rapid Blackhawks fans. I like to poke fun of them when they start tweeting during Hawks games. I do like hockey and would probably be a fan if Wisconsin had a team, but all my love is for the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers.

Q:  I also noticed an outtake of Big Bang Theory.  Who is your favorite character on that show?

A:  Tough question! The obvious answer is Sheldon, because he is utterly delightful. But I think I’d go with Amy. 1 – it’s an excellent name, 2- she brings out the best in Sheldon, 3-she’s persistently optimistic, and 4- she’s a neuroscientist. How cool is that?

Q:  So where did you get the idea for C3 (for those not in the know, that is short for The Coincidence of Coconut Cake)?

A:  When I started dreaming up ideas for a book, I thought about the potential couples that would have the most trouble making it work. I spent a lot of time working in kitchens through high school and college, so I went with a chef as my main character. And who would be an unlikely match for a chef? A restaurant critic, of course!

Q:  Which of your friends influenced your main characters?   Or if none did, are there any scenes in the book influenced by your friends?

A:  Did you not read #3 on my list of things about me as a writer? I will not admit to this. 😉 Truthfully, no. If anything, I’ve imbued a little of me into each of the characters. I will admit the fiancé’s profession and gum choice were inspired by my husband, and he also provided the name for one of my favorite characters, John.

Q:  Have you experienced writer’s block and if so how did you handle getting back in the grove of things?

A:  Yes, I’ve had that moment where I can’t figure out where to go with a scene. If I’m stuck for more than a few hours, I move on to something else. Either I get up and walk around, then the solution pops into my head; or I move on to a different part of the story. Worst case scenario, I type a few pages of drivel until I can write myself out of the problem. I find if I power through it, I’ll eventually get the story back on track.

Q:  Were you wearing pants while answering these questions?

A:  Only if you count prancing reindeer pajama bottoms as pants.
