He could picture it already. He’d invite Brett over for coffee when Steve was at work. Allistair would tutor him, using his years of experience at putting on a good show for investors and CEOs. They’d be BFFs and Allistair would no longer feel like such a social misfit.

“…and this is my boyfriend, Allistair.”

His throat tightened. Okay. I’ve got this.

Cole offered his hand. “It’s great to finally meet you, Allistair. I’ve never seen Steve so happy.”

For a mere second, he stared at the meaty hand that Cole held aloft before snapping into charming mode.

“It’s wonderful to meet you too. I hope you’re doing better?”

He smiled wide and it was genuine for the most part. He had to admit, Cole really did seem pleased to meet him.

“Much. Thank you.” Cole angled his head to gaze up at Brett.

Well. I obviously have nothing to worry about.

“This is Brett, my boyfriend. I don’t know what I would’ve done without him these past few weeks.”

Allistair watched in amusement as Brett’s tan face brightened with a healthy blush. Yes. He needed to get together with him immediately. He shot his hand out.

“How marvelous to meet you, Brett. I must say, that’s an attractive pique polo. The color suits you.”

The blush stayed. “Thank you. I was actually going to comment on your slacks. I think I recognize them from Burberry’s fall collection? I used to work in retail.”

The bestest of friends. “You have an excellent eye.” Allistair glanced at Steve. “If you’d like, Brett and I can go make up plates for you both so you can get caught up?”

He almost batted his eyelashes, but resisted at the last moment. Steve grinned then swooped in for a kiss. “That would be great. Thanks.”

Allistair held out his arm to a surprised Brett. “Shall we?”

Negotiating Love by Morticia Knight
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

this story is one of those stories that i knew i would love from the first page. i started reading it and absolutely could not put it down. it had me from the first line of the book. it’s like ms. knight reached into my brain (and heart) and pulled out a story she absolutely knew i would love.

while steve is in a job that leaves him with super heavy emotions that need to be taken care of by allistair and his heavy hand, it’s allistair that is the more broken of the two. steve is a big bad, ex-military swat team member that absolutely gives up all control to allistair and trusts allistair to take total care of him. allistair is a bit of a mess that really needs to learn how to live in the real world. there is very little build up between the two so we don’t have to wait to get to the good stuff. there is so much emotion between them and they are so good for each other, bringing out the best in each other. i absolutely loved their love story.

the angst and ‘suspense’ part of the story was subdued and not overly dramatic. it was perfect for the story. we got to see a little bit of past characters and meet a couple new ones that i can’t wait to read about.

overall this is another great book in a great series that i highly recommend.
