Wow…Ms. Haken really outdid herself here. Yes, this book is hard to read. Yes, it is very heavy and super emotional. Yes, you will need tissues. Yes, there are some major triggers here – mostly suicide and mental illness. But damn, this book is just phenomenal. I don’t know if Ms. Haken has personal experience with mental health issues or if she just did some really great research but she was spot on with this illness. The emotions, behaivours and reactions of those around James were just as hard to read as what James was going through.
Theodore was a bit unfair to James at first and was a bit mean to him at times. When he finally stops being crappy to him, they are really great together. James absolutely breaks your heart, even when he’s being an ‘arrogant arse’.
I hated James’ mom. I loved both older brothers – they helped make this story as great as it is. Tess was entertaining as hell.
Thankfully, there is an HEA (which I was worried about for a bit) although it takes a lot to get there. Overall, I completely deem this an absolute must read.
