Book Blast including Excerpt, Review & Giveaway – Blueprint (Out of the Blue #4) by RJ Jones

Blueprint (Out of the Blue #4) by  RJ Jones is live!

blueprint-600Blurb:

If only building the foundation for a lasting relationship was as easy as drafting the blueprint.

Jet Black doesn’t date. Even if he wanted a man beyond sex, his ever-watchful identical twin scares potential suitors away. Jet lives with his brother, but since Gray fell in love with Kris, Jet feels like a third wheel. Despite their bond, Jet knows he needs to move out and experience life for himself, whether Gray likes it or not.

After his father dies in a boating accident, Ethan Nichols is devastated. As the last survivor of his family, he realizes the need to put down roots. He leaves Australia and returns home to San Francisco and his old architectural firm. But there’s more to building a new life than simply moving house.

Jet and Ethan’s first encounter is brash and anonymous, but when Ethan moves across the hall, their lives become irrevocably linked. Jet is quirky and fun loving, while Ethan is rock steady and dependable. There’s no denying the passionate spark between them.

But Ethan is looking for a more solid foundation than Jet is ready to offer. Until Jet learns to spread his wings and trust Ethan with his darkest secrets, building a life together will be impossible.

This can be read as a standalone, however it is best enjoyed reading the series in order as side characters play a major role.

Excerpt

I nodded and bounced in my seat. Gray was still surly about Ethan so I couldn’t gush with my brother around, but I was dying to talk to someone. “I have. Oh God, Kris. You have no idea how fantastic he is. He’s the sweetest, strongest man I know. He’s just—” I sighed and dropped back against the cushions. “—perfect.”

“He’s a good man.” Kris eyed me knowingly. “Have you thought about telling him?”

I sighed again, this time for a completely different reason. “He knows. Well, sort of. He asked about the scar on my head, so I told him what happened. I just didn’t tell him who did it.”

That earned me a raised eyebrow.

“Don’t look at me like that. You know how much he misses his dad. When he talks about him, he’s all conflicted between missing him and smiling at the memories they had. It’s hard to watch sometimes. How am I supposed to tell him it was my father that almost killed me? Ethan’s got all these wonderful memories of a great dad and a relationship that I know he misses more than anything. I can’t burst his bubble.”

“Where does he think your father is?”

“In Washington. I didn’t lie… exactly. I just omitted some details when I told him about the assault. I didn’t mention who did it, so I think Ethan thinks it was a random attack on a helpless gay teen. He knows the perpetrator is currently locked up.”

Kris rested his elbows on his knees as he sat forward, giving me a sympathetic stare. “You’ll have to tell him eventually.”

I slumped. “I know. I just can’t do it while his dad is still on his mind so much.”

Kris didn’t have a chance to respond because a really pissed-off Gray came crashing through the front door. He didn’t see me sitting on the couch.

“That bastard,” Gray pointed toward Ethan’s condo, his face all red while he spoke to Kris, “is sleeping around on Jet. I’m gonna fucking kill him as soon as he gets home.”

“What?” Kris and I said in unison.

Gray turned to me and snapped, “What are you doing home? You’re supposed to be at the club.”

“I’m thinking of quitting. What are you talking about? What about Ethan?”

“I just saw that two-timing prick having a candlelit dinner in one of the swanky restaurants not far from the gym.”

That wasn’t right. “He was having dinner with clients. He told me about it. That’s why he’s not here now.”

“No. What I saw was him with one other person, a good-looking guy in a suit, with their heads together and hands nearly touching over the table. He’s no good for you. I knew there was something up!”

Gray paced the living area. Kris appeared shell-shocked, and I tried to figure it out in my confused head, my chest inexplicably heavy.

No. I didn’t believe it. Ethan said he loved me. He was a friend of Kris’s family. Kris has known him for years. True, they hadn’t been in contact that much, especially when Ethan was in Australia, but… people didn’t change that much, did they? Kris would’ve warned me about him if he were the cheating type.

Gray was mumbling responses to Kris’s questions, but my mind was in a fog; I had no idea what they were saying.

After what felt like only a few minutes Gray flung himself at the entrance and started yelling.

Christina‘s review

4 of 5 Stars

I went from book 1 to book 4 and while I enjoyed this book, I feel like I missed out on part of the story not reading Gray’s book. This seemed like a continuation of book 2 instead of a total stand alone. I was totally prepared for a major sobfest because this had the potential to really tear me apart, but I didn’t really get that. There was several times something in their history or current lives came up that was assumed knowledge that I’m guessing we learned in book 2.

Gray is still healing and dealing with attempting to live a normal life with Kris and Jet. When Jet meets Ethan, we discover that neither he nor Gray is totally ready for Jet’s independence. What happened to Jet and Gray as teens was absolutely tragic and I don’t know if they’ll ever really get over that. From what I see of Ethan, he’s a great guy…close to his family, solid career guy, super sweet to Jet and understanding of his and Gray’s relationship, tall and sexy. Jet is fun loving, flamboyant, beautiful and sexy. They are pretty great together but I would have liked to get more of their relationship. I felt like their story took a back burner to Gray and Jet.

I would like to see maybe a follow up novella to check in with them later. I recommend this book but think book 2 should definitely be read first.

About the Author

rjones-avatar_hiresRJ started as a reader and eventually made the progression to reviewing. It wasn’t until two men popped into her thoughts, insisting on telling her their story that she started to write. It started with one scene. A hot and dirty one in the shower.

RJ’s initial thought was if she could write their scene then they’d shut up and allow her to concentrate on other aspects of the day. That shower scene was 3000 words long and three hours of work.  But they didn’t shut up.  They told her their entire story and she didn’t sleep for days.  Sometimes she couldn’t keep up with what they were telling her and she had to keep a notebook by the bed.

Whilst RJ was writing their story a side character decided he needed his story told too. Then other characters followed suit.

You see the problem? If RJ ever wants to sleep again then she needs to write.

RJ is a wife and a mother to two boys. Even her dog is a boy.

She is surrounded by males.

RJ writes emotionally charged, character driven romances. Her guys will always get their HEA, but it will never be easy.
