Synopsis

The boys are back and fiercer than ever!

“We were a unit tonight, moving as one. Even apart, we are deadly, but when combined – we are f**kin’ unstoppable.” ~~ God ~~

Atlanta’s notorious narcotics task force is at it again. They are stronger, bigger, and better than ever. Especially when a city councilman sends RECON Marine, Edwin Steele – who’s been blacklisted from his Oakland department – to join the team. God and Day weren’t recruiting. They have a lot on their plates, like the fact they’re supposed to be getting married soon. They don’t have the time or the patience to integrate a decorated war hero with a slight chip on his shoulder into their well-oiled machine.

A hothead that’s uncontrollable and terrible with authority… but wasn’t that their team motto?

Steele was ready to hang up his shield. He was done fighting with bigoted bastards that couldn’t respect the job. He was good at fighting; he just needed the right team to fight with. When his uncle – City Councilman, Rasmus Steele – shows him a video of God’s team in action, he knows right away, it’s where his nephew belongs in order to restore his faith.

Steele pointed to the driver, a behemoth of a man wielding those massive firearms like a true beast… like a soldier. “And him. Who the hell is he?”

“That’s your new boss. Lieutenant Cashel Godfrey… they call him… God.”

Steele was skeptical about his new placement, but when he meets God’s technology specialist/computer genius, “Tech,” he’s willing to give it his all, and he definitely shows and proves.

Tech is stunning. His sweater vest and khakis, a stark contrast to the blue-jeaned roughnecks he works with. A beautiful sheep amongst the wolves. Steel thinks there’s no way the brilliant man would be interested in a hardhead like him, but Tech has a few badass hidden talents of his own and manages to surprise him… surprise all of them.

This story is a part of a series but can stand alone. It does not end on a cliffhanger and has a HEA. There are no multiple pairings in this novel.

Green took his boot off the wall and braced his feet apart, looking down at him. “So, you in or out? It’d mean you have to keep up with us, though. We cause a shit load of property damage and destruction on the streets, but we get the job done. You’ll probably piss off God on a regular basis and get your ass chewed out repeatedly. But he’s a lot of puff and smoke. Syn usually smooths things over for us. So what d’ya say, Marine? You up to roll with us?”

Steele took a deep pull of his cigar, licking his lips at the sweet flavor lingering there. He nodded once. “I’m in.”

“Cool.” Ruxs got up to leave, stopping right before he got to Green. “Be there tomorrow by seven so Tech can get you situated.”

“Hold up.” Steele stood, feeling a little lightheaded from the alcohol, and the way Green squinted at him, he saw it too, but he didn’t comment. “It’ll take some time, but I’ll show and prove out there. Show I can be trusted. But there’s something you need to know.” Steele rubbed his hand over his scruff, wishing this wasn’t necessary, but it was probably best. “You guys should know before we get out there on the streets. That I’m gay. I’m not ashamed of it and I don’t hide it. I’m single right now, but that may not always be the case. But I’ll be damned if I’m gonna go out there with a team that can’t deal with that. That’s what happened to my last partner.”

Green’s eyes twinkled with what looked like amusement and Ruxs looked flat out exasperated before he spoke. “We were gonna say something real similar to you, but we figured your uncle already informed you about us. I guess not.”

“Excuse me?” Steele asked, not sure what his uncle didn’t tell him.

Instead of Green clarifying any further he shot out both hands, grabbed two fistfuls of Ruxs’ leather jacket, and slammed him up against the wall hard enough to rattle the entire front side of the trailer. Steele winced right before he saw Green press in hard against his partner from chest to thighs, and crash his mouth over his. Ruxs didn’t even appear stunned, just melted into Green’s aggression like it was second nature. Jesus. This wasn’t something you could fake, either. They were lovers. Big ass, alpha, macho motherfuckin’ lovers. Ruxs’ hands came up fast and got a firm grip on the back of Green’s neck, not letting him go until he was finished too. They grunted and ground against each other like they forgot they weren’t alone. Steele felt his cock hardening at the live porno, wondering if he was going to have to excuse himself soon. He didn’t want to interrupt. He wasn’t a fool. Both of them were sexy as hell – not quite what he was interested in now – but fine male specimens nonetheless. One of Green’s hands slid up to Ruxs’ throat, and his partner’s reaction was downright lewd. Ruxs bucked his hips and reached down for a handful of Green’s tight ass in those jeans like he was encouraging him to thrust with him. Steele just refrained from letting out his own growl, the front of his pants way too fucking tight now.

“Alright, alright! Goddamnit. Being gay isn’t a problem. I got it.” Steele dropped back in his chair feeling like he’d just been the one thoroughly kissed.

Christina‘s review
5 of 5 Stars

This is getting 5 stars from me because it just has everything I love in a story and characters. It’s not earth shattering and yes, you have to suspend reality a bit but this book was written just for me and I love it.

Let’s talk about that cover before we talk about the book. HOLY SH!T. I can’t even tell you how much I love it. Tech is d@mn hot! I’m a sucker for a nerdy guy and he pushes all my buttons!I surprisingly loved having multiple POV’s in this book…getting more from God and Day and learning more about Tech, Steele and Free.

There is a lot going on in this book so I’m going to try to touch on all of it. I’m going to start with God and Day since they’re the guys that started all this! The opening scene reminds us of why we love these men. The emotions from this scene between God and Day just melt my heart. God made me a little mad when it came to planning his future with Day. I hate that he didn’t just talk to Day from the beginning but I loved how Day handled him…not letting God get away with shutting him out for too long. Of course they work everything out and get things done as they should.

I am so, so glad we FINALLY get more of Rick, Prescott and Blair…it seems like I’ve been WAITING FOREVER! Rick shows us why he earned the nickname ‘Bear’ but God straightens him out pretty quickly. God and Day’s solidarity when working with the trio is exactly what everyone needed to see.

I loved Ruxs and Green and their story so I was glad we got more of them here. Those guys are really pretty great.

Tech and Steele are perfect together. Steele is immediately enamored with the strong, brilliant Tech and it’s hard not to fall completely in love with these guys. I was a little surprised it took so long to see some of the effects of Steele’s military career…I thought it would have shown up pretty quickly. There were also a couple of scenes that were hinted at with these two that didn’t happen so I hope we see them a lot in the next book. There was mention of them sparring and of Tech taking Steele to Chen’s facility to show off his work. Neither of these things happened and I’d like to see them. I also would like to know more about Steele’s housing situation and how it relates to Tech.  We didn’t get much of Tech and Steele in the field together but I’m assuming we’ll see more of that in Free’s book (at least I’m hoping).

We meet a new character – Free and see his potential love interest. Free’s had a bit of a hard life and is skittish but is attracted to Hart who is a big, gruff supposedly hetero alpha like God so that pair should be pretty amazing. I can’t wait for their book.

I’ve been clamoring for more Gen and Curtis which we get at the end of this book. It’s novella length and of course, I wanted a full novel for them. This short story was really good but only left me wanting more of them so I’m crossing my fingers we’ll see more at some point. Gen is a gentle giant that protects those he loves at all costs and we see how bada$$ he can be in this story. Curtis was a little heartbreaking and I’m glad he has Gen to be there for him. I also love seeing the Papa Bears come out when their little cub is threatened!

We get quite a few surprises in this book and hopefully I didn’t spoil any of them. Needless to say, I love this series and I loved this book. Definitely a must read.
