room-mate_amazonThe last time I saw my best friend’s younger brother, he was a geek wearing braces. But when Cannon shows up to crash in my spare room, I get a swift reality check.

Now twenty-four, he’s broad shouldered and masculine, and so sinfully sexy, I want to climb him like the jungle gyms we used to enjoy. At six-foot-something with lean muscles hiding under his T-shirt, a deep sexy voice, and full lips that pull into a smirk when he studies me, he’s pure temptation.

Fresh out of a messy breakup, he doesn’t want any entanglements. But I can resist, right?

I’m holding strong until the third night of our new arrangement when we get drunk and he confesses his biggest secret of all: he’s cursed when it comes to sex. Apparently he’s a god in bed, and women instantly fall in love with him.

I’m calling bullshit. In fact, I’m going to prove him wrong, and if I rack up a few much-needed orgasms in the process, all the better.

There’s no way I’m going to fall in love with Cannon. But once we start…I realize betting against him may have been the biggest mistake of my life.

Ok. The blurb got me. Younger guy, sister’s best friend, he’s cursed with amazing sexual charisma and prowess. So much so, every girl he sleeps with falls for him and goes crazy when he ends things. He’s needs a temporary place to stay, she has a spare bedroom. His sister makes the connection and he moves in. Bring it.

Well, The Roommate didn’t fully deliver for me. Cannon and Paige had chemistry and the sexy times were spicy. But, he did not come off as a sex god. He’s 24, she’s 28. He’s a great kisser and he has some tilt-a-whirl moves, but the scenes are quick and she hasn’t had a lot of lovers. It felt more like he benefited from his comparison to her lame past lovers than standing out as really awesome. And all his crazy ex-girlfriends? Fiction, I know, but that felt over the top, added to make him more sex godish, the ultimate prize, but it didn’t go anywhere. Certainly, diving into the crazy ex-girlfriend(s) aspect a bit more would have added some depth. Instead, the story comes off as predictable with moments like “insert villain here” for drama.

Multiple chapters ended with something like “things were good or so I thought…dun dun dun.” At one point, I almost stopped reading it. The drama felt forced. And the dialogue? Stilted. Which is unfortunate because most of their issues, the conflict, is built around the fact that they don’t communicate and assume the worst. At one point, he shares how he is feeling during a sexy moment, she says nothing. Nothing. Not then, not the next morning. The rest plays out in their heads for the most part. Some of the drama is not telling his weirdly protective sister what is going on. Why? Who really gives an eff if a 24 yr old man is having consensual sex. I get his sister could be pissed that she didn’t know because Paige is her best friend but why is she pissed they are together. At one point, she deliberately gives Paige bad advice and tried to tank the relationship, like a jealous ex. Cannon’s mojo is spilling over onto his sister?

Also, there were some moments that just didn’t make sense. He’s living there for 2 months only. That’s the deal. Why would Paige sit there and let movers take her futon and let him move in a king bed? And how can a king size fit where a futon barely did? That’s random but it stuck with me.

This book had the potential to be more. The main characters simply lacked depth. Paige felt almost purposeless beyond her role as his childhood crush. Cannon’s character was a bit more problematic for me. Super smart, a doctor, but he can’t figure out how to really talk to Paige and deepen the relationship. Ok, he’s also 24. I know, but his character was inconsistent.

Overall, 3 stars. An airport read…superficially engaging but not particularly profound.

This one is kind of difficult to review to be honest. There were so many holes throughout the book, that I honestly found myself rolling my eyes through all of it. I seriously didnt highlight a single line, through the entirety of the book!! I think that is pretty good indicator of how I felt about it. The storyline didnt move me, it just felt like it couldn’t quite take off. It just didnt flow, it felt like it was trying to be something that it just couldn’t quite achieve. UGH!

Unfortunately the dialogue, just wasn’t much better for me. Both characters are in their mid 20’s. Cannon is an intern, which means he is ALREADY a doctor. Paige is already a professional! Why do both of them talk like they just entered college! No. Just no.

Since I am already on the topic of their age, if they are groups, why are they hiding it from the sister? I get that it would be weird bc she is older, or bc they are friends and maybe that was the whole draw, but I just didnt connect with the assumed “mystique” of their getting together.
The Storyline could have had promise, but it just felt flat for me. I am sorry! I liked them, I just didnt like anything surrounding them. Why were his exes ALL so over the top! Like seriously?! TOO MUCH!

Sorry y’all…….. What did work, the HAWT scenes were aiight, but it just felt like I was going out with an ugly guy that is stupid, just bc his body is ripped. I just can’t get passed the bag on the head and the lack of proper mental stimulation.
