Author Q&A:

Some of your books have been translated to other languages – what’s involved in getting books published internationally?  Is it a lot of hard work or is it easy?  What are the pros/cons of doing so?

I self-publish so for me the most difficult thing was finding great translators that I trusted. I looked at fellow authors who had translations and chose some great translators from books put out by Dreamspinner. In the case of my French Translator, Benedicte Girault, she came to me and really set me on my journey of translating my books in foreign languages. Then, I translated one in Spanish and then one in Italian. The French translations and Italian translations have by far been the best sellers and have earned me a whole new fan base in France, Canada (in French) and Italy.

Once you have a completed translation, the rest is like doing any other book. You format it and put it up on the various sites. In my case, I put the books up on my own website, Amazon, and Kobo because that’s where my foreign readers buy them. I sell a healthy amount on Kobo because not everyone overseas has a Kindle or is on Amazon and Kobo is very popular in Europe.

The pros of translating are obviously, you find new fans and sell more books. I’ve also made some great friends overseas and with the help of the Facebook translator, translate.google.com, and my friends here and there, I can follow most conversations and reviews. The cons are the cost of translating books and hoping you will make it back and seeing some profit after. The other con is that I have to stay up very late to catch my European friends online because I live in California. When I’m waking up, they’re having dinner and so forth.

You write a lot of BDSM stories – is that your favorite (sub) genre?  If not, what is your favorite?  What got you started with BDSM?

Yes, I would say it’s my favorite sub-genre. I’m comfortable writing there. I had written a novella for an anthology I was involved in several years ago and really wanted to write a full length novel. I ended up doing that for a series (“Silver Ties”) and it was very well received. After that came two other series which dovetailed out of that series.

Do you have any desire to write a happy, sappy regular romance story?

I write a lot of vanilla romance. In fact, the last two big ones, “The Superstar” and “The Thief” are vanilla romance with no BDSM at all. They are both fun and light and happy and in fact, I am experimenting with some comedy elements and if I read the reviews for “The Superstar” correctly, people agreed. I think I did even better with “The Thief” but we’ll have to see if anyone gets my sense of humor this time around.

Your ‘Invitation Only’ series is set in Texas (which is where we live).  Why Texas?  Have you visited?  If so, favorite part?

At least half of my books are set in Texas in a fictional town called Westburg which is an Austin suburb. Yes, I have been to Austin and in fact, I used to own property in Georgetown and Round Rock. Originally, when I released my first book “Leather Nights” the town was Round Rock but my publisher at the time, Torquere, was located in Round Rock so they wanted me to make up a name. They suggested Westburg so that’s where my stories happen. I’ve also been to Houston and Galveston. My family and I took a cruise ship out of Galveston Harbor in 2005 and the ship had about 90% Texans onboard. The waiters sang “When the Stars at Night, are big and Bright….” every night at dinner. Imagine a thousand pairs of shit kickers stomping three times in the dining room. It’s pretty loud. LOL! Honestly, I love Austin and if I could live any other place in the US, it’s where I’d go.

What is your favorite place to write?

Out on my balcony when the weather is nice. It’s very pretty out there but we’ve had a little rain this winter and the wind has been murder but definitely outside if I can.

Blurb(s): Former Marine and bona fide hero, Ranger Corrigan, is one paycheck away from joining his brethren among the ranks of Los Angeles’s homeless Veterans. When he is offered a great paying job in a palatial mansion, Ranger jumps at the chance for a roof over his head and a hot meal in his belly.

Handsome and cultured Landry Metzel lives too well to be the insurance appraiser he claims to be, and Ranger can’t help but want to know why he’s been hired to protect an innocuous man with no enemies. Metzel certainly won’t be sorry to see him go.

As famous masterpieces suddenly begin disappearing from private collections, Ranger begins putting two and two together. When an LAPD detective starts asking questions about murders tied to the thefts, Ranger suddenly wants to learn more about the man he’s hopelessly attracted to.

A wisecracking former Marine, a man with a desperate secret to hide, and a murderous villain come together in a tale of murder, danger, intrigue, and the crime of the century.

Excerpt:

“I know it’s silly… please don’t laugh at me but, I just imagine you came in and swept me off my feet, picked me right up and set me on the back of your white horse and made me… well… you made me feel complete Ranger.” Landry chuckled. “Ranger… you complete me… I love you.” Ranger lay there quietly listening, probably stunned by Landry’s revelation. “You don’t have to say anything back to me, baby, but I just wanted you to know… I love you.”

Landry quieted, listening to Ranger’s breathing as something suddenly dawned on him. He frowned.

“Ranger?” he whispered. “Baby?” Landry let go of the gorgeous hair he loved so dearly and reached around, pushing gently at Ranger’s shoulders. Ranger breathed deeply, his chest rising and falling. “Ranger…” Landry said a little louder. He frowned and pushed at Ranger as he felt his flaccid cock slide out of his ass. “Ranger!” Landry squirmed out from under him as he finally pushed hard on Ranger’s pecs.

Ranger groaned and rolled to his back and Landry rolled with him, propping himself up on one elbow as he looked down into Ranger’s relaxed face. His long black eyelashes lay against his cheeks. When his mouth fell open, he let out a loud snore. “Khhaaaaa!”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Landry asked. “Are you ASLEEP?”
