Simon McLeod was a promising young naval captain before his ship was attacked and CIA agents forced him to fake his death and join their ranks. Since that horrible night, Simon has focused on finding the men responsible for ending his career. He’s close now, but he needs help from the man he loves. The problem is Edgar is straight, has no idea how Simon feels, and threatened to strangle him the last time they were together.

After years of using his medical expertise to patch Simon up after ill-advised missions, Edgar told Simon not to come running to him anymore. Watching Simon self-destruct was too painful. But when Simon shows up on Edgar’s doorstep covered in blood, Edgar can’t turn him away. He also can’t fight the feelings he has for Simon, feelings that go way beyond friendship.

Neither man thought he’d ever truly be happy again, but if they can survive a final dangerous mission, they might be able to prove themselves wrong.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Simon turned into a parking lot, forcing himself to stay upright and not favor his side. No one would remember him if he could just look like a normal guy. If he was limping or they saw the blood soaking his T-shirt—thank God it was cold and the leather coat he’d stolen from one of his captors covered the bloodstains—he was screwed.

He walked across the parking lot as if he knew where he was going, scanning the cars for a good prospect. The street in front of him wavered.

Come on. Don’t pass out now.

Finally, he found a car that suited him, an older nondescript sedan, one of the most common models on the road. He had it started in a matter of seconds.

Where do I go now?

Edgar. His subconscious had been whispering the name, tantalizing him with it.

He’d sworn he wouldn’t call Edgar again. Edgar was sick of picking up the pieces after Simon took insane risks. Would Edgar deem this mission insane? Simon supposed most people would think so, especially since he’d known he was being set up going in. But he was closing in on the organization who’d attacked the Ridgeway. Finally, after five years. Surely Edgar would understand if Simon needed him just one more time.

Unexpected Engagement (Unexpected #3)Unexpected Engagement by Silvia Violet
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

although i’ve liked the other couples in this series i liked these guys the best. i felt more emotion with them. possibly because they had been skirting this relationship for so long or possibly because they both just suffered more through their relationship.

simon is exactly the bada$$ you think he is in book 2. he’s lived through so much and come out stronger from each incident. he felt he wasn’t good enough for edgar and didn’t want to endanger him with his lifestyle so he tried to stay away from him. edgar was a sucker when it came to simon and would do anything for him. he is a badarse in his own right but seems a little more sentimental and sensible. together they are explosive while being sweet and vulnerable with each other.

i was a little disappointed in the culmination of the mission (view spoiler), but overall i liked the story. it seems like there might have been room left for another book in the series possibly. i’d definitely read more if that happened!

Blurb:

Shrapnel from an explosion tore up Jackson’s leg and ended his career as a Navy SEAL. Being forced into the civilian world was bad enough, but being told he’s crazy is intolerable. No matter what the doctors or anyone else tells him, he knows a supposed ally was responsible for his injury, and that same man is determined to shut Jackson up for good.

When Jackson sees a kayaker clinging to his boat from the balcony of his beach house, his instincts tell him something dire is about to happen. Jackson rescues the injured man and insists on hiding him until a former SEAL teammate arrives. As Jackson struggles with separating reality from soul-shattering flashbacks, the injured man’s compassion and growing trust tear down his barriers, and Jackson begins to wonder if his heart is as dead as he’d assumed.

Silvia Violet writes erotic romance in a variety of genres including paranormal, contemporary, and historical. She can be found haunting coffee shops looking for the darkest, strongest cup of coffee she can find. Once equipped with the needed fuel, she can happily sit for hours pounding away at her laptop. Silvia typically leaves home disguised as a suburban stay-at-home-mom, and other coffee shop patrons tend to ask her hilarious questions like “Do you write children’s books?” She loves watching the looks on their faces when they learn what she’s actually up to. When not writing, Silvia enjoys baking sinfully delicious treats, exploring new styles of cooking, and reading to her incorrigible offspring.
