all that being said, i liked this book mostly. i really liked ms. leighton’s writing – i’d forgotten just how much i liked it. this quote in particular stood out enough for me to copy…but there were more parts of the story i could have shared.
“I stroke my fingertips down his cheek, enjoying every prickle of his early-morning beard against my skin. I don’t ever want to forget what it feels like to touch a star. not a star in Hollywood, but a star in my otherwise black sky. Bright and warm and oh-so-fleeting.”
both of the characters are survivors of major tragedies. both of them are the way they are now because of how those tragedies shaped their lives – one stopped living and one fought to live. i love how patient and gentle rogan is with katie. i love how she blossoms after meeting him. there were a couple of surprises for the couple woven in with the story that started in book 1 but the pinnacle of angst for katie’s story was a bit predictable. we’re left with a couple of questions when things are taken care of in the end that i’m guessing we’ll get answers to in book 3.
this is a book/series i would recommend. i do have a major issue with one scene in the book that i’ve hidden as a spoiler below. it’s a major spoiler so read with caution.
