YM‘s review

4 of 5 Stars

I started this book without any preconceived notions. I just knew it was an Alessandra Torre book, and I wanted to read. It certainly completely different from any of her other books. Then, I had to analyze it and make sure that my feelings towards the book were genuine.
The book follows the life of Chole, a previous NYC socialite and her fall from grace. She has to struggle and find herself, while maneuvering and dealing with the fact that her life in the lap of luxury is no more. She transitions from friend’s couch to her own apartment, and the reader gets the sense of her maturing through this process.
What I loved about the book, was the fact that Chloe really got the opportunity to “rise from the ashes”, so to speak and really discover who she is and assert her standards and morality.
I will say, I struggled with reading it, because the story felt a little fragmented to me. It definitely read more like a magazine column, as opposed to a novel. It did have a Sex in Cityesque feel to it, which to be honest is the reason I pushed through.
The book was definitely cute and different. I would recommend it as an easy Spring Break read. It’s super cute and I couldn’t help but cheer for Chloe as she chose love, instead of commodity and wealth.
