We step forward at the same time, and he presses his rough hand to my cheek. “I don’t know what kind of pussies you went out with before, but I wanted to fucking claim you in there.”

I respond by pulling his mouth to mine, my break from men long forgotten. We stumble backward, crashing into the railing, fighting for dominance as we did yesterday morning. The passion between us has a life of its own. My hands claw over his ass, up his back. I want to strip him down and take all of him. I want to discover why he’s so rough and learn what about those shadows that are lurking behind his gorgeous eyes. Instead I take, and give, and take more of the angry kisses. This is my first Melissa Foster novel so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It definitely can be read as a standalone although the characters from other books are in this one as well. I was fully expecting this book to rip my heart out as Alex heals from all his wounds and while these guys do have some work to help Alex heal, it wasn’t as painful as I anticipated.
I am not a fan of insta-love and although other reviewers felt this book was even faster than that, it didn’t bother me in this book. I think these two already knew enough about each other the instant feelings were based on that and bolstered by their shared connection to Alex’s grandmother. Their sexual chemistry was off the charts. They each clearly needed the other to heal. They were really great together. I loved that the angst between them was short lived and quickly resolved. I don’t like the angst built on miscommunication or a lack of communication which could have easily happened here.
The writing is good as is the supporting cast. This book is not earth shattering but is full of emotions. If you need a quick read that is heavy on the sappy romance, this is a great book for that.
