Rory had always liked Max but ran away at 17, cutting all ties to her family and her hometown. Max didn’t know her that well but was impacted by the events leading up to her leaving. They both end up in San Francisco, their paths crossing again, with his big lovable dog, Carl, possibly doing some matchmaking.
To get home in time for Christmas to keep a promise to her family, she accepts a ride home from him. This ride home was full of past hurts and sexual tension. They expressed their feelings, resolved misunderstandings, and they went home to face her family….that was it. They fell in love on a ride home on a snowy night on Christmas Eve. The book doesn’t dive any deeper.
I am trying not to mix up how I feel about the story with how short it was. It ended at 58 percent, the rest of the book is excerpts from 3 of her other books. I was gearing up for more emotional turmoil. If I had known it was a quick hit, I would have had different expectations but I didn’t. I wanted more. Max and Rory had chemistry. Carl, his dog, was the best secondary character ever.
It was a quick, easy read. Light on angst, a bit of humor and a guaranteed HEA.
