Missy‘s review
4 of 5 Stars
This is the final book in the Masters Among Monsters series. The writing was well-done, the story developed nicely, very engaging. You learn more about who is pulling the strings, be it gods or monsters. And you find out more about who Paris is.
The story, however, just didn’t go where I thought it would. This is not a criticism, it’s a fact. I thought the focus of this book would be on Thanos, Paris and Eton but characters from the other books got plenty of parking space in this story. Certainly, I loved seeing the other characters and they played their part in pushing the story along, but I wanted more.
Thanos and Eton, beyond broken, their relationship was so very interesting. It pulls at you and simultaneously repels you. Let me just say, “Charlie.” Good lord. That scene with him exemplified both Thanos’ and Eton’s pain, grief, obligation, desire, desperation, and despair. I wanted to explore it more. These two sacrificed much and as strong as both these characters were, and after all they went through to find their version of peace and salvation, I was not exactly happy with how things turned out for Eton. ME=pouting. No spoilers! This book is not predictable.
Go in expecting this to be not just Thanos’ story but the series wrap up. You will not be disappointed. You will, however, be surprised by the ending. It took a left turn on the mythical freaky highway and left me with my mouth hanging open and shaking my head. A What. The. Eff. moment. Brace. 4 big a$$, crazy stars!
