Nathan Roberts was just your average polyamorous librarian living in Vancouver until his best friend, Deanna started dating a werewolf. While hosting the small pack in his apartment while they hid from the underground network of Huntsmen, Nathan enjoyed a casual fling with Cole, the pack leader’s brother. But now, he may just be falling for him.

When his neighbor is murdered, Nathan is convinced the death is linked to the supernatural, but Cole and their friends deny any paranormal connection. This leads to a fracture of trust in their relationship, and Cole’s pack is left to deal with an unknown killer on the loose. As Nathan pursues answers on his own, he must come to terms with the truth, and his feelings for Cole.

“Are you all right if I stay?” Dinner long over, Nathan and Cole sat on the balcony and watched the sun set over False Creek. Nathan’s bare feet were in Cole’s lap; Cole’s strong fingers pressed deftly into the arch of Nathan’s right foot as Nathan bit back a groan of pleasure.

“Of course.” Cole sounded surprised that Nathan would think otherwise. Kiara and Ryn had left an hour ago. Kiara’d said something about binging Wynonna Earp while Ryn mouthed “sex” behind her back.

“Thanks.” Nathan slid lower in his chair and let his eyes fall closed as Cole switched feet. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt so relaxed. Not since he’d found the body, for sure.

The heat of the day had ebbed; the air was now pleasantly warm as opposed to sweltering. With his stomach full of delicious food, a cold beer dangling from his fingertips, and his handsome lover humming quietly along to Snow Patrol as he massaged Nathan’s feet, Nathan never wanted to be anywhere else.

If he could keep this moment, hold it safe and perfect and untouched, he would. All he needed was a Pensieve. And if werewolves were real, who’s to say the world of Harry Potter wasn’t?

He cracked open an eye to look at Cole, who was gazing serenely at the water. Nathan wished… He wasn’t sure what he wished for: to not be so inquisitive, to take Cole and Kiara at their word that there was nothing else out there, to be able to let this go.

He couldn’t, though; he knew that. And there was no sense wishing he was otherwise. He could keep it to himself tonight, that much he could offer.

“Cole.”

Cole turned his focus back to Nathan. Their eyes met, and Nathan drew in a breath. In the soft light of the late evening and the glow of the balcony lights, Dee had helped Kiara string earlier in the summer, Cole’s eyes were golden. They shone like good scotch, heady, needing to be parceled out in small doses, lest it leave a person overwhelmed, dizzy, breathless. Nathan wanted to pour himself the full bottle, to drink it straight from the source.
