Synopsis

I didn’t read this story when it was originally released because one closeted character is usually more than I can handle but two was definitely too much. I decided to dive in (ha, sometimes I amuse myself) with the audio because sometimes the performance helps me get through books I usually wouldn’t read.
Derek played a big-ish role in book two, so I knew a bit about his and Gabe’s story. I wasn’t a fan of their fighting and juvenile behavior toward each other to hide their attraction. Their initial sexual encounter and their reactions to it didn’t endear me to them. Several times these boys reminded me why I tend to stay away from the younger characters because I do not like the immaturity.
I did like the way Derek decided to come out and the way Gage supported him when he made the statement.
The vocal performance was good, and I wouldn’t have made it through the book without it. The emotions he put into the characters helped make them more likeable.

This is a cute, sweet, quick listen. I originally read it as a standalone but did feel like I missed some of the history between Mitch and Evan by not reading book one so I listened to book one before listening to this one. While you do meet these guys in book one, I think this can be listened to as a standalone.
I really liked both characters. Their banter is entertaining and they have great chemistry. I was glad to see Evan embrace and admit his feelings for Mitch. I typically shy away from stories with characters in the closet but Evan had a unique reason hiding his sexuality and when he realized he could/would lose Mitch if he continued hiding he made the right choice.
My only wishes are for Mitch’s POV and the story to have been longer with a little more development…that would have made this a 5 star read for me.
The vocal performance is good. There was great emotion in both characters and he nailed Mitch’s attitude!
