Synopsis

Family man, entrepreneur, member of an outlaw motorcycle club—can one man really have it all? Carlos was close but while corruption was destroying Devils Pride, cancer was wreaking havoc on his home, stealing his wife, and leaving him to raise their children alone. Angela was the love of his life and he never thought he could have that with someone else, much less the too-pushy-to-be-serious son of his enemy.

Mateo’s life was forever changed the day he watched his mother get gunned down by a rival motorcycle club. Hidden from the world by an angry father and groomed for revenge, pain is the one thing he can rely on. The constant that becomes comfort and strength, and a coping mechanism that becomes less effective with every lash. This isn’t the life he’s meant to lead, but with no way to break free, Mateo has two choices: do what he’s told or die.

When a third option presents itself, he isn’t expecting a happy ending. At best, he thinks they can have a moment. A small pocket of time to be seen and accepted, cared for and wanted, by a man strong enough to stop him from doing the unthinkable, while allowing him the revenge he’s more than earned. It would be a solid plan if not for one tiny problem.

Mateo didn’t know he was capable of love and Carlos won’t let it be taken from him again.

Author’s Note: Series should be read in order

5 of 5 Stars

I legitimately don’t know where to start this review. Let’s see. It’s not a standalone. At the very minimum you need to have read the first two books in this series but if you’re like me and need to know every detail about every character you meet, you’re going to want to read the Sizzling Miami series as well before starting this series. Trust me, they’re worth it.

I read a lot of books and as I get older I forget some of the details – usually the important ones (of course) – so I tend to re-read books right before a new release in a series if it’s been a while since I read the last book or if I need to remind myself of details. I have read book one in this series four times now (yes you read that correctly) and book two I’ve read three times now. In preparation for this release, I re-read books one and two in January. AND JESSIE STILL SHOCKED ME – THREE TIMES. So NOW, I must go back and re-read them again to see if I missed hints or if I should have seen some of these things coming because I am sooooo not a fan of surprises. And of course, every time I read one of these books, I HAVE to go back and read For a Reason again so here goes the cycle. (Maybe Jessie should have been a crack dealer?) Anywho…I digress.

So, this book picks up about a year after Talk Dirty to Me and Ty is in the opening scene. I probably could stop my review there, but I won’t. Carlos and Mateo are still trying to navigate their ‘relationship’ and their clubs’ agreements with all the agencies. I can’t give any more details there without spoiling too much so I’ll just say a lot of that arc gets tied up although there are a couple of unanswered questions I’m hoping will be answered in future books.

I didn’t know what to think of Mateo in the previous book. I knew most of what we saw was a mask, self-preservation if you will, I just didn’t know how deep his scars ran. His story is heartbreaking (and I’m going to issue this controversial statement here for the first time) and is second in tragedy only to my favorite Jessie G character – Red.

Carlos is an amazing father. He is surprisingly low-key. He is the perfect match for Mateo and I loved how he showed Mateo his worth and helped restore his self-confidence. I didn’t like how long it took him, but I guess all good things take time.

As I stated, we get a few shocks along the way; there are some pretty big hints for future books and we have another great read from Jessie! And I’m STILL waiting for Clay’s book (insert stink eye).

About the Author

Jessie G Books

Like many readers, I’ve dreamed of being a writer most of my life. Thanks to social media, I was able to follow my favorite authors and hoped to glean some words of wisdom as I pounded out half-formed ideas with alarming regularity. It isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely been worth it and with four series in the works and a full schedule of releases planned for the next two years, it’s been amazing to have made this dream my reality.

I am a firm believer in marriage equality, love at first sight, power dynamics, and happily ever after. I’m a lover of strong secondary characters and series filled with families—biological or chosen. All are themes you’ll find throughout my books.
