Author Name: Morticia Knight

Author Bio:

M/M Erotic Romance author Morticia Knight enjoys a good saucy tale – after all, who doesn’t? Since she loves several genres, you may find your heroes in a contemporary, historical, paranormal or sci-fi setting. One of her passions is bringing people’s fantasies to life on the page, because life is too short for even one boring moment. Her stories are volcanic in heat, deep in emotion, and sprinkled with doses of humor.

When not indulging in her obsession for books, she loves the outdoors, film and music. The Pacific Northwest is the ideal spot to enjoy both hiking and beachcombing. Once upon a time she was the singer in an indie rock band that toured the West Coast and charted on U.S. college radio. She now resides on the northern coast of Oregon, where the constant rain and fog remind her of visits to family in England and Scotland when she was a child.

She is currently working on the Sin City Uniforms Series and a BDSM spin-off to the Gin & Jazz series entitled The Hampton Road Club. A follow-up to Bryan and Aubrey’s story in Rockin’ the Alternative will also be available in 2015 through Totally Bound Publishing.

Vegas is filled with human cast-offs, yet officer Parker McLean sees something special in hustler Slade Wolfgang. Unfortunately, so does Slade’s pimp who wants to sell him overseas in the sex trade.

Hustler Slade Wolfgang has little choice over his fate. At the age of twenty, he’s had to survive any way he can since being thrown out of his home for being gay. As soon as he hit Vegas, Slade was lured into the hopeless world of prostitution where he’s become a virtual prisoner to his pimp, the ruthless Julio Estevez. His evil keeper has even threatened to sell Slade overseas as a sex slave.

It’s another typical night on the Strip when Parker comes across Slade. His heart breaks every time he sees someone so young being exploited. Something in Slade’s eyes tells Parker the young man might be in real trouble though – especially after the recent spate of sex worker killings from a rival prostitution ring.

The two men’s lives become intertwined when Slade is almost beaten to death. The danger grows, but so does the relationship between Parker and Slade. Parker helps Slade to heal from the horrific attack and their bond deepens. But the human traffickers are still out there – and they’re still looking for Slade.

Publisher Advisory: Scenes of violence and a brief scene of sexual abuse. Although part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt:

“I can get you help. Get you away from Julio.”

Slade wrapped his arms around himself. It had the effect of making him appear smaller. Parker was reminded of how vulnerable and scared he’d seemed when Parker had tried to arrest him.

“I don’t understand why you’re doing this, especially after the whole, you know, what I did to you.” He appeared shameful then furrowed his brow. “Why do you care? There must be something else you want.”

Parker was completely thrown by the question. He had to admit it was a good one—one he would have likely asked had he been in Slade’s shoes.

“The only thing I really want is to make sure you’re okay.” It sounded silly to his own ears even as he said it out loud. He ran his hand over the top of his head. “Look. I don’t know you and you certainly don’t know me. I guess… Oh, Jesus. I’m going to sound like a weirdo.” He’d half mumbled it to himself.

Slade laughed. It wasn’t loud or robust, but it was such a wonderful sound to hear from him. It gave Parker a glimpse at the real man underneath all the pain and misery.

Parker chuckled. “It’s nice to hear you laugh.” Bizarrely, a flush of heat rose up his neck and into his cheeks. He cleared his throat. “For whatever reason, Slade, I see something in you that tells me you don’t belong here, that you really want out. I might be completely crazy, but I get the impression you’ve been dealt a shit hand and that maybe all it would take is someone giving you a chance without expecting something in return. Maybe all you need is a break.”

Slade chewed on one side of his lip, conflicting emotions playing across his face. Parker had the sense that somewhere inside Slade he believed what Parker was telling him, that he didn’t think that Parker wanted to take advantage of him. But there was something else there that Parker couldn’t quite interpret. It was like hope. Slade seemed hopeful.

Does that mean he wants to accept my help?

Right then a car pulled up and Slade’s expression changed. Parker whipped his head around, half expecting Julio and his goons to be right there. Instead, he saw a petite young woman with short hair waving out of the passenger window of a black sedan with tinted windows.

“Slade, come on! We gotta get going.”

Parker was filled with an odd panic. He was afraid that if Slade went off with whoever was in the car he might not see him again. But he was even more afraid that it might be the thing that carried Slade to whatever awful fate awaited him. He grabbed Slade’s arm without thinking and the young man tensed.

“Don’t go. Julio’s a very dangerous man.”

Slade’s jaw went slack again. “How do you…?”

“I’m a cop, remember? I hear things. Come with me. I’ll get you into a program that can help you. It’s too risky for you out here right now.”

“I…”

“Slade! Tell him you can hook up later, we gotta go!”

Slade put his hand over Parker’s where he still gripped him.

“Look, dude, you seem really nice, but I’m gonna be okay. I’ve got things worked out. I have a plan. I swear.”

“Slade, I don’t think you understand—”

He didn’t jerk away, but Slade made it clear he wasn’t going to stay. He pulled away then closed up his room.

“Wait—”

Jogging past Parker, he stopped when he got to the car then turned around.

“What’s your name?”

The question threw Parker off, but he quickly recovered. “Parker. Parker McLean.”

A grin lit up Slade’s face. “Thanks, Parker.”

He hopped in the back seat of the vehicle, waving out of the window at Parker as he drove away. Parker waited until the sedan had turned the corner then slowly made his way back to his own car. Once he’d sat down inside, he gripped the steering wheel, but didn’t start the engine.

There was nothing more he could do. Slade was an adult and it wasn’t up to Parker to save the world. He only hoped that Slade wasn’t one of the targets Beau had been referring to.

Christina’s Review:

Copping an Attitude (Sin City Uniforms #2)Copping an Attitude by Morticia Knight

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

this is my very first morticia knight book and wow what a great first book!

while there were a couple of scenes that were really hard to read, this story was absolutely fantastic! the love story was beautiful. the suspense was spot on. the supporting cast was great! the writing was really good.

slade is a broken castaway doing whatever he can to survive. he hated what his life was reduced to in order to just barely live. if he can ever claw his way out of this mess, he knows he can have a great life – one eventually with the love he knows he is capable of deep down in his soul. he just needs a way out.

parker is pretty happy with his life – he likes his job, likes his house, is in a steady-ish relationship. only he’s not complete. he doesn’t feel like the guy he’s been seeing is ‘the one’. he knows his soul mate is out there, he just hasn’t met him yet.

they meet under really horrible circumstances but are immediately, inexplicably drawn to each other. and so their tale begins…

one of my favorite secondary characters is beau. i’m guessing we’ll get his story next and it should be just as good as this one! i’m also looking forward to going back to read book 1 in this series because it sounds like another great read!
