The Fenestration Penetration

Steve Gillian, UPS driver, sort of loved his job.
It wasn’t that he got to keep his long-limbed, rangy body fit, but that was a nice side effect. He ran his ass off every time he stopped his truck and leapt out, very aware that he could be observed by Corporate on any given day.
It wasn’t that usually, when people got packages, they were happy with what they got—although that was a plus. Even if he was delivering urns with ashes in them, there was at least a sense of relief, of “Oh thank God, that’s where Grandma went! We can put her on the mantelpiece now!” and sometimes, there was more. Sometimes there was “Oh my God! My dad bought me season tickets to the Kings game!” or “Woot! The shoes I ordered that might not make my feet hurt like a sonofabitch have finally arrived! I’m so happy!” Or even, “Aw, my husband sent me flowers!”
He had to admit, those made his day—but they weren’t really the reason he loved his job.
The real reason he loved his job was that he got to look in lots of windows.
Not in the dirty, pervy way (at least not usually), but in the flight-of-fancy way. He would walk by a window and see, say, a kid’s destroyed room, and he’d wonder what it would be like to have a kid who wore the Darth Vader costume and the bunny costume and the princess dress. And then he’d wonder if there were two kids in that room. Or if the boychild was gay or the girlchild trans, or vice versa. And then he’d imagine what that conversation would be like when said child grew up enough to talk to parents. Would there be a fight? Would the parents be happy? Would there be social awareness? Or would there be fights, heartbreak, and broken homes?
Steve was mostly a happy guy—he was always rooting for the happy parents and the social awareness, so he’d imagine that, and then he’d move on to the next house. Look at that living room—see that hand-knitted doily on the back of the corduroy recliner? Was there an elderly woman in there? Was she widowed? Did her children come talk to her and play cards? Grandchildren? Did she teach them how to cook? How to knit? Did she pass on the secrets of the ages? Or was she like that horrible old harpy he delivered to once who greeted him with “It’s about damned time!” and sent him on his way with “If you got paid by delivery, you fuckers wouldn’t stand around all day picking your asses!”
Again, he was rooting for the happy granny, the type he had, who had greeted his news of coming out with a serene smile and a request for help with her fashion.
“I’m sorry, Grandma—I really don’t know clothing brands. Mostly I just keep in shape so I can get laid.” (Well, he’d been in college at the time.)

Elin Gregory
Elin Gregory lives in South Wales and has been making stuff up since 1958. Writing has always had to take second place to work and family but now the kids are grown up it’s possible she might finish one of the many novels on her hard drive and actually DO something useful with it.
Historical subjects predominate. She has written about ancient Greek sculptors, 18th century seafarers but also about modern men who change shape at will and how echoes of the past can be heard in the present. Heroes tend to be hard as nails but capable of tenderness when circumstances allow.
There are always new works on the go and she is currently editing a novel about spies in the 1920s, finishing one set in 6th century AD England and contemplating one about the Second World War. Any excuse to buy more books!
Freddy MacKay
Freddy grew up in the Midwest, playing sports and running around outside. And honestly, that much has not changed since Freddy was small and throwing worms at other kids, expect worm throwing has been replaced with a healthy geocaching addiction. Freddy enjoys traveling and holds the view a person should continually to learn about new things and people whenever possible.
Freddy’s contemporary LGBTQ book, Incubation: Finding Peace 2, won 3rd Place – Best Gay Erotic Fiction in the 2012 Rainbow Awards. In 2013, Freddy’s story, Internment, tied for 3rd Place – Best Gay Fantasy in the Rainbow Awards. Freddy’s steampunk/SF story, Feel Me, was a Finalist and honorable mention in the 2014 Rainbow Awards for SF.
JC Wallace
JC “Jake” Wallace started writing from a young age, but took a break for marriage, kids, and college (in that order). A few years ago, he rediscovered his passion and ventured out into the brave new world of publishing. He now has several novels and short stories published. At night and on the weekends, Jake writes about all things men, believing there is nothing hotter than two men finding and loving one another, whether for a night or forever. An avid reader of M/M romance, Jake loves a good twist of a plot, HEA, HFN, or tragic ending. He also writes what his bestie calls HUNK (Happy Until the Next Kidnapping). In his daytime hours, Jake works with individuals with autism and behavior problems. He is owned by a beautiful partner, three kids, two grandchildren, two dogs and one cat. Tali Spencer
Tali Spencer fell in love with writing at an early age and never stopped. Thanks to a restless father, she grew up as a bit of a nomad and still loves to travel whenever she can. Her longest stint in one place was Milwaukee where she went to college, enjoyed a series of interesting careers, and raised three surprisingly well-adjusted sons. She later married her true love and put down new roots in Philadelphia, where she lives in an ongoing Italian American family sitcom. At least she’s learned how make good pasta. When not writing, Tali reads everything from sweet goofy romances to medical research, manages her fantasy football team—go Gekkos!—and takes long walks with her loving, if slightly neurotic, poodle.
Tinnean
Tinnean has been writing since the 3rd grade, where she was inspired to try her hand at epic poetry. Fortunately, that epic poem didn’t survive the passage of time; however, her love of writing not only survived but thrived, and in high school she became a member of the magazine staff, where she contributed a number of stories.
It was with the advent of the family’s second computer – the first intimidated everyone – that her writing took off, enhanced in part by fanfiction, but mostly by the wonder that is copy and paste.
While involved in fandom, she was nominated for both Rerun and Light My Fire Awards. Now she concentrates on her original characters, and recent novels have received honorable mention in the 2013 and 2014 Rainbow Awards.
A New Yorker at heart, she resides in SW Florida with her husband and two computers.

Author Q&A with Tinnean
Q: Do you pay attention to literary criticism? And if so, how does it affect your writing?
A: I try to take criticism with a grain of salt, because otherwise I’d become depressed and wouldn’t be able to write for longer than I’d like to think. I hate giving anyone that kind of power over what I write.
Back when I wrote fanfiction, I used to love all the feedback I’d get. However, since becoming published, I find myself shying away from it. These are my babies. How can anyone not love them as much as I do?
The thing is, everyone has their own opinion. If you check out Goodreads, you’ll see books that are considered classics being given one or two stars.
So unless someone says, “Hey, Tinn, Blue and Green Persuasion, or They Come By Night, or Things Happen That Way just got the best review,” I’d prefer not to know.
Q: What are your current projects?
A: Right now I’m almost finished with a story set in Great Britain between 1948-1976. I have a British friend reading it over to make sure I don’t make huge gaffes. The biggest problem seems to be names. I tend to use them frequently in conversation, while apparently, in GB, they don’t do that.
Once that’s finished, I plan to work on something I call Lagoon of Dreams, which deals with the relationship between a Terran and an alien. The book after that is a paranormal about a wolf man and a Terran. Then there’s a shifter/snakeboy story, and finally a Terran/dragon.
Busy, busy, right? 😉
Q: List three books you have recently read and would recommend.
A: I’ve fallen in love with Tara Lain’s Harker Pack series, so I would recommend The Pack or the Panther, A Wolf in Gucci Loafers, and Winter’s Wolf. Very sexy shifters you definitely don’t want to cross! I’m looking forward to Jazz’s story.
Q: What bores you in a book?
A: Although I used to enjoy it very much, I’d have to say that now it’s PWP – passion without purpose. (otherwise known as Plot? What plot?) I find myself skipping over sex scenes, unless I’m invested in the characters. I’d much rather see how they interact with each other on an emotional level.
Q: What is your all-time favorite book?
A: It really depends on where I am in my life. I’ve loved Flint by Louis L’Amour, Time Enough for Love by Robert Heinlein, many of Georgette Heyer’s regencies, especially Cotillion, Mary Renault’s The Persian Boy. But one book I can go back and read again and again is To Kill a Mockingbird. I know that’s clichéd, because it’s such an important book, but it resonated with me when I was a teen first reading it, and it resonates with me now.
