I’m not going to recap the book, read the blurb. It’s good. Instead, I’m going to tell you that although I don’t love the title of the book (yes, I get that it’s a song title- I just thought the other titles in the series were much cooler and because this book is edgy and angsty, the title didn’t work for me), I loved the book.
Calix and Mimi. There is an obvious attraction. She won’t act on it because she works for the band. He won’t because he is afraid of how she makes him feel. She’s got daddy issues, he’s super-sensitive and holds the weight of a family tragedy over his heart, keeping it closed off.
Calix – yes, he is as hot as that name sounds. Big, muscular, long-haired hotness. Mimi – spunky, fiery and funny. She is as open and free with her emotions as Calix is closed off. I enjoyed her evolution from daddy’s girl to her own girl, finding her happy within and with Calix.
The good stuff – the back and forth about the fantasies each had about the other. Hot! The push and pull between them, the ping pong game with my emotions was almost too much. But, the feels! You couldn’t help but root for Calix even though his head was in his a$$.
The reality show storyline fell a little flat for me though. At first, it was awesome that it brought Mimi and Calix together and showcased Mimi’s talents, but it seemed rushed to conclusion. I expected more from it but it was more like background noise. Once I adjusted my expectations, I was fine. The time she spent with him and his family because of it was what mattered.
Really good story and strong secondary characters. Can’t wait for the next one!
